FARE Kicks Off 2020 with $75 Million Committed, Accelerates Growth and Focus on Research and Advocacy Initiatives

McLean, Va. (January 22, 2020) – Today, FARE (Food Allergy Research & Education), the world’s largest private funder of food allergy research, announced that it has begun the second year of its five-year fundraising goal with $75 million of a $200 million campaign committed. The funds stand to not only influence but reshape the research landscape and vastly improve the group’s position to make additional commitments for multi-year research initiatives, continuing to play a key role in accomplishing its overarching goal to improve the lives of those living food allergies.

“Every single dollar we raise brings us that much closer to making dramatic improvements to the quality of life and the health of the 32 million Americans living with potentially life-threatening food allergies,” said Lisa Gable, chief executive officer of FARE. “We are so grateful and incredibly energized by the level of support the food allergy community has seen in the last year but there is so much more to do.”

FARE has made a strong impact over the last year, beginning with the December 2018 launch of its Contains: Courage campaign and laying important groundwork throughout 2019 including hosting more than 1,000 people at the inaugural Contains: Courage Summit focused on research, life-changing educational initiatives and advocacy and gaining significant support for the Food Allergy Safety, Treatment, Education, and Research (FASTER) Act of 2019 (H.R. 2117).

“Donations are the life-blood for FARE and are critical to reaching the goals we have set,” continued Gable. “Our progress is substantial, but our 2020 plans are big. We’re focused on enabling collaboration, advancing research, and providing new and evolving education and training offerings. Through these activities, FARE will continue to pave the way for a more promising future, touching the lives of millions coast to coast.”

FARE is focused on bringing much-deserved attention and action to the issue of food allergies and working towards high-impact solutions for the food allergy community including accelerating and expanding research collaboration. The group’s research goals include determining the genetic underpinnings of food allergy, understanding the immune mechanisms that lead to allergic reactions to food, developing general, highly effective treatments for patients with food allergies, based on scientific findings, and, ultimately, developing methods to prevent food allergy altogether.
